Overview
The presidential directive freezing submission of negative data to the Credit Reference Bureaus (CRBs) comes to an end on 30th September 2022, having been in operation for the last 12 months. Equally, there have been a number of regulatory milestones achieved in regard to registration of data controllers and data processors as well as licensing of Digital Credit Providers. These reforms anchored on the Data Protection Act, 2019, the Central Bank of Kenya (Amendment) Act, 2021 and the earlier gazettement of CRB Regulations, 2020 have necessitated credit providers to recalibrate their lending operations to ensure full compliance.
