Looking to step up your facilitation game? Creative Facilitation is an in-depth, art-based training designed to equip facilitators and presenters with the skills needed to engage diverse audiences effectively. Designed and led by Creative Praxis, this training will build your capacity to create culturally relevant presentations or workshops, ensuring your participants walk away with tangible tools they can use in both their personal and professional lives.

Note - this workshop is free for PACDC 2024 Conference Presenters - if you are a presenter and need to register, please contact Joanna Winchester (jwinchester@pacdc.org).

Overview:

Creative Facilitation is an in-depth, art-based, somatic-centered experience designed for new or experienced facilitators and presenters to build the skills needed to engage diverse audiences effectively. It is led through various learning approaches, including art making (ex, movement, drama, spoken word, writing, singing, storytelling, music, or visual arts), small and large group discussions, and experiential activities.

We will share and practice techniques and strategies to help you create culturally relevant workshops, presentations, or trainings that ensure you participants walk away with tangible tools they can use in both their personal and professional lives.

This session will:

  • Create a sense of community by establishing safe and courageous learning and discovering space
  • Build your facilitation techniques, including active listening, effective communication, and adaptive strategies to manage diverse group dynamics
  • Increase your knowledge and understanding of your own individual "I Am" and "We Are" (individual and collective stories)
  • Share techniques and strategies that will help you capture and maintain the attention of varying audiences, ensuring active participation and engagement throughout your trainings, workshops, or presentations
  • Develop your skill set for incorporating cultural relevance into your presentations and workshops, making content relatable and impactful for all participants
  • Help you ensure that your participants will leave your trainings or presentations with practical, actionable tools that they can immediately apply in their personal and professional environments
  • Cultivate strategies for creating safe, inclusive spaces where all participants feel valued and respected, enabling open dialogue and effective learning

Creative Praxis

Creative Praxis is an art-based, healing-centered, joy-filled training organization for youth, educators, and community members that is grounded in six educational humanistic approaches for the cultivation of liberation in both theory and in practice. We are facilitating a shift toward a liberation approach to education, community engagement, and youth work. The Creative Praxis training provides a holistic experience that transforms the individual and the ways that they engage and interact with their community and the systems at work in our society.

The Creative Praxis team is made of highly skilled educators, community artists, and organizers who are dedicated to the craft of interactive, transformational facilitation. Each training is intended to ground the participants in the theory of the content, while allowing time to practice their knowledge and discoveries so that they can incorporate what they learn into their personal lives and learning spaces.

Our art-infused, healing-informed and anti-racist trainings emerged from the research and experiences of master facilitator, community artist, educator, youth organizer, and counselor Nia Eubanks-Dixon. Nia comes to this work with over 20 years of experience working with diverse youth and their communities around the world most impacted by systemic oppression. She is certified in restorative practices, interactive mediation, restorative arts, trauma healing, trauma-informed spaces, and de-escalation techniques. She was awarded the 2017 Philadelphia Fellowship from Training for Change. In 2002, she received her BFA in Dance Education from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. In 2017, she received her Master's Degree in Urban Studies with a concentration in Community Arts from Eastern University.

The Creative Praxis team has been providing art-based, healing-centered, and joy-filled trainings for over 10 years. We use the 6 educational humanistic approaches as a guide for cultivating the learning space, which in turn impacts how participants interact with themselves, their families, and community members. Our trainings inform how participants enter and build with the community as well as the policies and procedures they create on an organizational level. Ultimately, we craft innovative trainings that speak directly to the needs of educators, youth leaders, and young people.
