https://www.symbria.com/Dr. Rajeev Kumar joined Symbria as its Chief Medical Officer in 2016. In this role, he is tasked with designing regional post-acute services integration models for its clients. In addition, Dr. Kumar is the Medical Director for Prospero Health in the Midwest region. He leads a team of clinicians that provides Palliative care and chronic disease management to home bound seniors in Illinois, Missouri and Kansas. He is also the medical director for British Home and Burgess Square nursing facilities. In his previous roles as a Geriatrician and medical director of a large Geriatrics practice in the suburbs of Chicago, he has mentored many PA and APRN students, Family practice residents and Geriatrics fellows- as volunteer faculty, and has received awards for excellence in teaching and for inclusiveness.
He has worked closely with AMITA ACO – having served on its board in 2015-2016 and now serving on its Finance and Contracting Committee and the Post-Acute Care Consortium. He has served as Vice chair of Medicine for Hinsdale and LaGrange hospitals in suburban Chicago.
Dr. Kumar trained at Bangalore Medical College in India and then completed a residency in Internal Medicine from University of Illinois, Chicago in 1997 and a fellowship in Geriatrics from Loyola University Medical Center in 1998. He is board certified in Internal Medicine, Geriatrics, Hospice and Palliative Medicine through NBPAS. He is a Certified Medical Director from ABPLM.
He served as the President of Illinois Medical Directors’ association from 2011-2015, when IMDA transformed into a thriving and active state chapter of AMDA. Illinois started hosting annual educational meetings and sponsoring fellows for AMDA’s futures program during his tenure. He serves on the board of IMDA- which he expanded to include interdisciplinary professionals and serves as the chair of IMDA’s membership committee. He is part of a committee that revised IMDA’s bylaws that are now being adopted by other state chapters. Most importantly, he built lasting relationships with other professional societies (state affiliates of AHCA, ASCP and GAPNA) that increased membership and enhanced the voice of IMDA.
Dr. Kumar served as chair of AMDA’s membership committee from 2016-2018 and facilitated the restructuring of membership tiers and benefits, and initiation of Practice Group Network memberships. He serves on AMDA’s public policy committee and is AMDA’s delegate to the AMA. He has submitted numerous resolutions to the AMDA HOD and continues to be active in shaping AMDA’s policy on Healthcare reform and new payment models. He also serves on the Resolutions committee and as co-chair of the Practice Management Section.
Dr. Kumar has volunteered to serve on the boards of nonprofits- Wisconsin Illinois Senior Housing (WISH) and Aging Care Connections, LaGrange IL (Area Senior services agency).
In March of 2018, Dr. Kumar was elected to AMDA’s board of Directors as Secretary.
