There is a growing body of research on the use of social media in attempts to manipulate public opinion. But how is digital propaganda changing? This talk explores the rise of "geo-propaganda" and "encrypted-propaganda"—the ways in which powerful political and other actors are leveraging digital geo-location tools and encrypted messaging apps, respectively, as mechanisms for public manipulation and new types of digital politicking. What tools are being used and are new policies or regulations needed?
