EXPERT OPINION: Why AI will Make the Workplace More Human, not Less

Pedro Uria-Recio

Robotic dystopias, where robots replace humans or even rise up against humans, are a recurrent topic in popular culture and innumerable science fiction movies.

In fact, many of us can easily imagine a dystopian workplace in the near future where robots are taking control of most activities or decisions, and where human interactions or feelings do not matter much. Only productivity matters: a formula at which robots are better than humans.

Apart from traditional manufacturing automation, new and more capable artificially intelligent systems are appearing in fields ranging from self-driving cars to automated supermarket check-outs and customer service bots. Remarkable innovations involve beyond-human abilities in natural language processing, strategy board games or computer vision.

Previous Congresses

"My takeaway was that my understanding of AI or imagination of AI was wrong. I thought it will be a fast tool that could help to boost our goals. It was a brilliant event. I really enjoyed it. The presentation was nicely done so that the right questions could be asked. Good arrangement."

Jörg Haase

Managing Director, China & Production Manager, Asia

Becker Marine Systems China Ltd.

"For Siemens the Food & Beverage industry in Thailand shows big potential and with the Thailand 4.0 initiative an innovative environment for the development towards digitalization. The Business Innovation Congress 2017 in Bangkok has been a very good platform to get in touch with Thailand food associations as well as food & beverage producers to discuss the current status and the future needs like standardization as a first step."

Alexander Samuel Grimm

Head of Vertical Food & Beverage ASEAN, Digital Factory Division Siemens, Singapore.

"I was deeply impressed by the positive evaluation and interests given by speakers and audience members from different countries and industries regarding the opportunities of trade and economic development and cooperation between Asian and European countries. The Business Innovation Congress 2017 in Moscow is a very valuable platform for the business cooperation between China and European and Central Asian countries."

Dr. Xu Guojian

General Secretary of "The Innovation and Cooperation Centre for OBOR Legal Studies", Vice Chairman of China Society of Private International Law, China

"I came out of duty and would certainly have driven back if there had been nothing new here. I did not expect such breadth and depth."

Hans-Hermann von Lucke

Volkswagen, HR Development & Education Strategy China

"Very convincing and eye-opening talk. Although I am natural scientist, I liked the fact to hear the story NOT from a (computer) scientist or mathematician. The fact that Dr. Schamber comes from social science drove the AI topic also towards more general impact on society, humanity, and even into some philosophical questions, and ethical, legal and other discussions, and also some evolution discussions, many of those questions now already real, but others still remain hypothetical. Very interesting! Thank you! A real special evening!"
