The Belgium-Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce (BLCC) in Hong Kong officially launched on 11 December 1998, succeeding the Belgian Business Association which was founded in 1992. The BLCC is a non-profit organization of business people with an active interest in developing two-way trade. The BLCC membership totals more than 200 individuals representing over 120 companies up-to-date.

Our mission is to create a platform to develop and foster economic, commercial and financial relations between Belgium, Luxembourg and Hong Kong. By organizing networking receptions, workshops and seminars on a regular basis, the BLCC facilitates Belgian and Luxembourg companies to expand their network in Hong Kong.

On Monday, 17 May, from 3pm to 4pm HKT (GMT+8), Mr. Thierry Geerts, who looks at the dangers and opportunities of the digital revolution, will talk about his new book Homo Digitalis. Without taboo and with a forward-looking vision, he gives countless compelling examples of how digitization affects us as humans and society. His conclusion is clear: the technology is neutral. It is up to humans to deal with it consciously and confidently. If we do that, digitization will make us happier, with more time for creativity, depth, care and the things that matter. Then we become more human. Then the homo sapiens reveals themselves as homo digitalis.

Thierry Geerts

CEO/Country Director of Google Belgium & Luxembourg

Thierry Geerts is father of 4 children and graduated as Solvay Business Engineer at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel in 1989. After his studies, he started working as auditor for Coopers & Lybrand (now PwC), but quite soon his passion for media, online marketing and innovation led him to management and board positions at, among others, Corelio Publishing, Radio Nostalgie, Clickx and Passe-Partout. In 2008, he became CEO of Corelio Business Development and Arkafund.

Since 2011, he is Country Director of Google Belgium-Luxembourg and as such he is positioned in the heart of the digital revolution, marketing and innovative entrepreneurship.

He’s member of the “Digital Minds for Belgium” and “AI4Belgium” Expert group of Deputy Prime Minister De Croo, “Le Conseil du Digital” of Walloon Minister of Economy and of the board of IAB Europe. He’s the author of “Digitalis, how to reinvent our world” (NL/FR/ENG/CHIN) and Homo Digitalis (NL/FR).
