Julian Gallegos is a PhD-prepared board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) and Clinical
Nurse Leader (CNL) who has served in different nursing capacities over the past 20 years. He
has clinical experience in medical-surgical nursing, labor and delivery, stroke care, diabetes
management, nursing leadership/management, family practice, general urology, and men’s
health. Dr. Gallegos has been in academia for seven years. Currently, he serves as the Director
of the DNP program at Purdue University – West Lafayette. He is married to his wife of 20 years
who is also a nurse and has a son currently in 3rd grade who wants to be an astronaut. His
MakerHealth Academy journey is about creating something that will improve the quality of life
for suprapubic catheter users. As he embarks on his journey to grow his prototyping knowledge
and skills, he is excited to improve patient care and outcomes and incorporate his learning into
his teaching.

Rose Hedges DNP, RN began nursing in an inpatient surgical unit and then transitioned to a
cardiac intensive care unit where she discovered her determination to find solutions to optimize
patient outcomes. Her current role is in informatics at UnityPoint Health St. Luke’s Hospital in
Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where she utilizes her clinical expertise, computer technology, and
information science to support innovation and change throughout the hospital. Rose is also the
MakerNurse champion at St. Luke’s Hospital where she strives to empower nurses to share
solutions they have created to identify problems in healthcare. Rose’s passion for health making
and prototyping at the point-of-care continues to influence her daily work.

MakerHealth CEO Anna Young works from a fundamental belief that, with the right tools,
everyday people can use their ingenuity to create devices that heal. Applying years of global
experience with the Maker Movement, Anna brings prototyping tools and makerspaces into
hospitals to enhance the natural problem solving abilities of clinicians and patients. Anna is the
Co-Founder of MakerNurse, an RWJF-sponsored program to support inventive, frontline nurses.
Anna’s roots come from MIT as a researcher in the Little Devices Lab and lecturer in the
Institute for Medical Engineering and Science. In 2015, Anna was recognized by LinkedIn as a
top Health Innovator under 35 and in 2016 received Fast Company’s Most Creative People in
Business.
