Dr Selena Gilles, DNP, ANP-BC, CNEcl, FNYAM Associate Dean at NYU Rory Meyers College of Nursing Dr. Selena Ann Gilles joined NYU Rory Meyers College of Nursing in 2014 as clinical assistant professor in the undergraduate program. Gilles has a DNP from Monmouth University (2014), an MS in adult health nursing from Hunter College, City University of New York (cum laude, 2010), and a BS with a major in nursing degree from Long Island University (with honors, 2005). She is a certified clinical nurse educator and is also certified in critical care nursing. She has been an Adult Nurse Practitioner for 10 years, specializing in neuro and pain management. Gilles is passionate about the management of acute and chronic pain, as well as opioid overdose prevention.
Danielle McCamey, DNP, CRNP, ACNP-BC, FCCP Founder & President of DNPs of Color Dr. McCamey is a mentor, leader, and educator. She has nearly 20 years of nursing experience and over a decade as a board-certified Acute Care Nurse Practitioner. Her specialties range from perianesthesia to palliative, and critical care. She serves as the Assistant Dean for Clinical Practice & Relationships at the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing and currently practices as a Senior Advanced Practice Provider in Surgical Critical Care. She is the founder, CEO, and president of DNPs of Color, Inc., a 501c3 nonprofit national organization that builds community for nurses of color through networking, mentorship, and advocacy to increase diversity in doctoral studies, clinical practice, and leadership. She is a thought leader who has been sought out for interviews and podcasts to share her expertise in creating communities that foster innovation, collaboration, and transformational change to advance the nursing profession.
LeTizia Smith Assistant Professor
LeTizia Smith Assistant Professor Podium: Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Psychiatry LeTizia Baxter Smith is a Family Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and a Co-founder of Silver Lining Psychiatric Consultants. She is a native of the middle Tennessee area. With 15 years of experience in the mental health field, LeTizia uses her warm, supportive approach to assist clients in their journey to discovering their best selves. LeTizia attended Vanderbilt University for her undergraduate career and completed her Master Science in Nursing (MSN) from Vanderbilt School of Nursing. She then completed her Doctorate in Nursing Practice (DNP) at Emory School of Nursing. She regularly engages in continuing education in the field of psychiatry. She is a member of the American Psychiatric Nurses Association (APNA), Tennessee Nurses Association (TNA), the American Nurses Association (ANA), and National Organization of Nurse Practitioners (NONPF). She was also chosen to be a SAMHSA Minority Fellow from 2018-2020 and will serve on the DNPs of Color Advisory Committee in the upcoming year. Currently, she is on faculty at Vanderbilt School of Nursing where she has served as the chair of the diversity and inclusion committee in the past.
Cheryl Thaxton DNP Program Director of TWU
Cheryl Thaxton DNP Program Director of TWU Podium: Outcomes of a National Cancer Institute Supported Training Course in Palliative Care for Oncology APRNs Dr. Cheryl Ann Thaxton is an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse and Doctor of Nursing Practice Program Director at Texas Woman’s University (TWU). She has 30 years of experience in nursing which includes several years of experience in critical care, palliative care, primary care, nursing leadership, curriculum development, program development, and as school of nursing faculty. Dr. Thaxton has devoted several years of her career to research surrounding the specific needs of children and adults with life-limiting illnesses. She has served as national Faculty for the End-of-Life Nursing Education Consortium (ELNEC) for over a decade. The ELNEC project is a national and international education initiative to improve palliative care. Since 2000, ELNEC is a collaboration between City of Hope, Duarte, California, and the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN),Washington, DC. Dr. Thaxton has a plethora of evidence-based publications relating care of pediatric and adult patients with life limiting illnesses. She developed a curriculum along with other ELNEC Faculty for the Oncology APRN - Primary Palliative Care role focused on supporting pediatric oncology patients. In 2021,Dr. Thaxton received the DFW Great 100 Nurses award in Dallas,Texas. In 2022, she received the Ambassador Award from the National Black Nurses Practitioner Association, in addition to receiving the 2022 Estelle Osborne Legacy Award from the New York University Rory Meyers College of Nursing.
