This interactive workshop provides insight and tools to integrate ESG risk and opportunity management into business strategy, performance management and disclosures. The training builds on concepts outlined by the Committee of Sponsoring Organizations of the Treadway Commission (COSO) and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) in their award-winning guidance Applying Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) to ESG-related risks.

The guidance is designed to help organizations respond to the increasing prevalence and severity of ESG-related risks, ranging from global risks such as the current pandemic, social equality, and diversity, and extreme weather events.

The session provides practical tips, guidance, and insight to techniques to support effective risk assessment and prioritization, based on learnings from business responses to the pandemic, drivers of effective disclosure, and stakeholder management.

ESG landscape in Malaysia

The talk will focus on the ESG landscape after more than a year of facing a global pandemic, as many corporates and industries have started looking into building a more resilient set-up, or "building a better normal". We will share stories of impact about people, planet, and performance. The commitment of the Malaysian government and various sectors towards sustainability (ESG) shall be discussed, including the current available soft regulations and policies in Malaysia. Last but not least, holding ourselves accountable will be crucial to accomplish all on-going ESG efforts. ESG initiatives must be treated with holistic monitoring and measurement programs that are as stringent as the most rigorous inspections conducted by advocators/regulators.

Roberto’s genuine passion and commitment to sustainability and his eagerness to act as catalyst in helping business in the transition to a sustainable world, have led him to take the role of Executive Director of the Business Council for Sustainable Development Malaysia, a Global Network Partner of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD).

Roberto led the EU-Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (EUMCCI) for almost four years and during his tenure the Chamber became one of the most influential organisations and advocacy platforms in Malaysia.

Roberto held several senior general management positions in the private sector, working for fortune-500 companies and start-ups in countries such as Italy, UK, Spain.

Roberto holds an MBA from SDA Bocconi in Italy and an MA in Marketing from Lincoln University, UK. Roberto is currently a PhD candidate at the University of Malaya, Asia Europe Institute Malaysia working on a research project on business sustainability.

Foong Ling has more than 25 years of consulting experience in strategic Environmental Health & Safety and Sustainability, specialising in brownfield remediation and construction, wastewater treatment plant design and multinational client's global environmental programme management. She is currently attach to Deloitte Business Advisory Sdn Bhd as a Director, leading Deloitte Malaysia sustainability and climate risk services.

Foong Ling leads projects in advising clients on merging, acquisition and integration, as well as operational compliance and EHS excellence. Her expertise lies in the evaluation of environmental liabilities and their impacts on industrial operations in the context of emerging markets, especially in Malaysia.

Foong Ling has completed major oil and gas downstream regional environmental services programmes for Shell, Chevron, ExxonMobil, PETRONAS, ConocoPhillips, Petron, covering countries in Malaysia, Thailand, India, Philippines, Indonesia, Brunei, Singapore, Pakistan in her past career in environmental consultancy. She is a certified Health and Safety (H&S) Officer with expertise especially in sub-contractor management. She has expanded her work from contaminated site management to climate change and sustainability services, including carbon footprint project strategy and management.

Gordon is a Director at the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) working within the Redefining Value program. He has a specific focus on supporting companies to implement Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) to Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG)-related risks and to integrate ERM in business operations and decision-making.
Gordon has extensive experience of data analytics and risk modelling, risk management and risk transformation gained across the private, public and financial services sectors.
Gordon has recently worked on a project to apply enhanced risk assessment and prioritisation methodologies within the Food & Agriculture sector.

Eleanor is a Manager in the Redefining Value programme at the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) in London. In her current role, Eleanor works across a number of projects namely enterprise risk management, governance & internal oversight and assurance & internal controls where the focus is on integrating sustainability issues in to mainstream business practices to support decision-making. Eleanor works with member companies to support the development of solutions to address sustainability challenges in these areas and delivers training to members across the organization to support the application of WBCSD developed solutions. Having previously worked in corporate reporting communications, Eleanor has experience of working with FTSE 350 clients. Eleanor holds a BA in English and Business, a Diploma in Management Accounting from the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) and recently completed the University of Cambridge Course on Sustainable Finance.
