What is the Pomodoro Technique?

We will be using the Pomodoro Technique for our Facilitated Work Sessions. The Pomodoro Technique is a time management method developed by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s. It aims to improve focus and productivity by breaking work into timed intervals with regular breaks. The technique is name after a tomato- shaped kitchen timer called a "pomodoro" in Italian. The idea behind the Pomodoro Technique is that the timed intervals create a sense of urgency helping to maintain focus and reduce procrastination.

Implementing the Pomodoro Technique?

  • Create a list of tasks that you want to accomplish. Decide which task you want to work on first.
  • We will set the timer for 25 minutes. Focus on the chosen task and work on it with full concentration.
  • When the timer goes off we will take a 5 minute break. During this break you can get up, walk around and grab a snack. (Please avoid checking email or voice messages during this short break as it could be distracting.)
  • After the break we will start the next 25 minute Pomodoro.
