    Gordan Stojović, MP

Member of Parliament at The Parliament of Montenegro

Gordan Stojović was born in 1977 into a family of doctors. His grandfather, a general, is renowned for his diplomatic missions in Allied commands during World War II in southern Italy and later in Albania. His uncle was a prominent Yugoslav diplomat in Argentina and France.

Gordan spent part of his childhood in Belgrade, where he was born, but completed his primary and secondary education in Herceg Novi, Montenegro. He studied Maritime Engineering at the University of Montenegro and also pursued International Relations at the Catholic University of Murcia in Spain.

He began his career in the tech industry as part of the team that launched the first web portal in Montenegro, which went online in 1996. Later, he transitioned to the energy sector, where he engaged in electricity trading and investments until 2011.

Due to his extensive knowledge of Latin America and fluency in Spanish, Gordan was invited to strengthen the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro, which had been evolving since the country declared independence through a referendum in 2006.
He became the first director responsible for developing relationships with the Montenegrin diaspora.

In early 2014, Gordan was appointed as the first Montenegrin diplomat in Argentina, taking on the role of Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to Argentina, Chile, Brazil, and Uruguay, where a significant number of descendants of Montenegrin emigrants reside. During his diplomatic tenure, he established the initial diplomatic relations between the newly independent Montenegro and most South American countries from Buenos Aires. His efforts inspired the formation of institutions and civil associations, as well as numerous projects focusing on reviving the memories of the descendants of emigrants, given the long-standing tradition of this diaspora.

As of 2023, Gordan serves as a member of the Parliament of Montenegro, where he is involved in the Commission for Foreign Affairs and Diaspora and the Commission for Tourism, Agriculture, Ecology, and Spatial Planning.

Throughout his career, Gordan has dedicated a significant part of his life to researching the history of early emigration to the American continent, with particular emphasis on Argentina and the American West. Additionally, he is the author and contributor to numerous articles and books, including "Montenegrins in the United States" (Sharyn Novotny, 2020), "Montenegrin Emigrants in the New World" (2016), "Montenegrins in South America" (2011), "Illustrated Encyclopedia of Montenegro" (2005), "Montenegrin Emigration in Argentina" (2002), and "Montenegrins in Argentina" (2000), focusing on Montenegrins, the history of Latin America, society, and migration.
