GTCC Business Luncheon

Thailand Economic Outlook 2025

Date: Tuesday, 18 February 2025

Time: 10:30 โ€“ 13:00 hrs. (Check-in starts at 10:00 hrs.)

Venue: Ballroom, Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok [MAPโ€‹]

Global growth defied expectations in 2024, weathering conflicts, China's economic slowdown, and the anti-incumbency trend in Western democracies. The IMF forecasts the global economy to expand by 3.2% this year, matching 2024's performance. However, growth is uneven and the US is expected to remain the main locomotive. Looking ahead to 2025, three critical questions emerge:

  • Can US economic exceptionalism continue amid rising trade barriers including Trump's tariffs, geopolitical instability, and elevated stockmarket valuations?
  • What will be the impact of Trump's "America First" policies? Will they fuel inflation and strengthen the USD, or lead to productivity gains and a reduced trade deficit?
  • Can China reignite its economy? Will it pursue bolder measures to boost domestic demand? Finally, the reconfiguration of global supply chains presents a crucial opportunity. What role will Thailand and ASEAN play in this transformation?

The luncheon will provide you with an overview of global and regional challenges, in particular for German businesses discussed by our prominent keynote speaker, Dr. Charlie Lay, senior economist for Commerzbank covering Asia based in Singapore. The keynote on "Macro Outlook: Asia and Thailand navigating through an uncertain and anxious 2025" will be followed by a panel discussion of representatives of GTCC member companies on "Industry insights, sustainability, competitiveness and challenges ahead".
