In light of the recent surge in racist violence across the UK, the role of housing organisations in nurturing safe and inclusive communities has become more crucial than ever. At Housing Diversity Network, we aim to highlight the vital role that social landlords can play in supporting tenants and communities during these challenging times.
Further to our advice published this week, we think it's important to be in community with each other at this time, and would like to invite members to a virtual roundtable - to discuss actionable strategies and share insights on how housing providers can strengthen community cohesion and resilience.
Amanda Garrard, Chief Executive of Berneslai Homes, will share their experience from recent weeks - in particular, how their staff and communities have been affected by the violent rioting and arson attack on the hotel housing asylum seekers on the border of Rotherham and Barnsley.
Anthony Duerden, Chief Executive of The Calico Group will also share how they have responded, including proactive in communication with their board and staff. Devonshires Solicitors will be outlining some of the legal remedies available to landlords who may wish to take action against tenants who have been involved in the disturbances.
Baljit Basra Housing Litigation lawyer at Devonshires will be providing details of legal remedies available to landlords who wish to take action against tenants who have been involved in the riots.
This conversation is essential as we continue to work on providing up-to-date and relevant support to the sector that reflects current circumstances. Please join us on the 15th August as we aim to provide a space for mutual support and discussion about overcoming these challenges.
