Event Details

Target Participants:

Team leaders, HR professionals, and team-building facilitators responsible for planning, executing, and ensuring the effectiveness of team-building activities within their organizations.


Course Rationale:

Many team-building activities are event-focused, leading to short-term engagement but failing to achieve lasting change within teams. This session addresses the gap between event-based activities and meaningful team development by teaching participants how to recognize team development needs, design targeted interventions, and implement strategies that ensure long-term improvements in team dynamics and performance.


Course Description:

This 4-hour learning session is designed to help participants understand the pitfalls of traditional event-based team building and learn how to create and manage team-building efforts that lead to sustainable change. The session will guide participants through recognizing team development needs, designing appropriate interventions, implementing them effectively, and following through to ensure that the intended workplace objectives are met.


Terminal Objective:

By the end of the session, participants will be able to conceptualize and manage team-building initiatives that address specific team development needs and lead to measurable improvements in workplace team dynamics and performance.


Enabling Objectives:

  1. Identify why many event-focused team-building activities fail to produce lasting change.
  2. Discuss the importance of aligning team-building efforts with long-term team development goals.
  3. Develop methods for assessing the current state of team dynamics and identifying development needs.
  4. Use tools and techniques to gather insights into team challenges and areas for improvement.
  5. Outline the steps for designing team-building interventions that are tailored to the specific needs of the team.
  6. Integrate team development theories and models into the design of interventions.
  7. Explore best practices for implementing team-building activities that drive meaningful change.
  8. Discuss strategies for managing group dynamics during team-building sessions.
  9. Create strategies for ensuring that the outcomes of team-building activities are reinforced in the workplace.

Session Flow & Methodology:

  • Interactive Lectures: Each module will begin with a focused discussion on key concepts, supported by real-world examples and case studies.
  • Group Activities: Participants will engage in breakout sessions to practice assessing team needs, designing interventions, and developing follow-through strategies.
  • Case Study Analysis: Participants will analyze case studies that highlight both successful and failed team-building efforts, identifying key factors that contributed to the outcomes.
  • Action Planning: At the end of the session, participants will create a plan to apply the learned concepts to their upcoming team-building initiatives.

Commitment Required:

Participants should come prepared with examples of previous team-building activities they have managed or participated in, along with any challenges faced and outcomes observed. Active participation in discussions and group activities is expected to maximize the learning experience.

CheQ Systems, a software testing company, outsourced its entire HR operations to ExeQserve. They help them hire software quality engineers, manage their HR affairs, and training and helped establish an employee retention strategy amidst tough competition for talents in the IT industry.

    Ed took up Mass Communication at New Era University and has over 20 years of experience in a wide variety of Human Resource Management and Development Works. He has served as a consultant for organizations like Harry Pound Co., Optimus Innovations, Asiapro Cooperative, and Bridgeworth Consulting where he participated in Australia Aid-Philippines-Australia Human Resource Development Facility (AUSAID-PAHRDF) funded human resources development projects.
    Ed is very passionate about three things at the moment; Strategic Human Resource Management and Development, Teamwork, and Communication through Toastmasters.
