Event Details

An opportunity to participate in a 2.5-hour webinar demonstrating the National Web based Environmental Screening Tool by representatives of the South African Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environmental (DFFE). The webinar, organised by the International Association for Impact Assessment South Africa (IAIAsa).


The Webinar, will walk users through the steps required to choose a classification category, locate a site, place a footprint, check the site and footprint environmental sensitivity, learn about what the many buttons and tabs represent, and how it is used to successfully achieve the end goal of generating a report.


There are additional tools and tabs that will show the new and enhanced functionality for users.


A short Q&A session will be held prior the session ending.

    Mr Deon Marais is a Chief GISc Professional in the Directorate Spatial Information Management (SIM) in the Department: Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE). Deon, a Geographer, has been actively involved in GIS since 1994. Deon formed part of the team that developed the Screening Tool and is still actively involved in providing training on the tool, monitoring the daily accessibility of the tool and provide support to users.

    Ms Marlanie Moodley is the Director for Spatial Information management at the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment in South Africa. Ms Moodley is a professional (PGP 1416) in the Geospatial field and has over 21 years’ experience in the field. She has focused on decision making tools for organizations and dissemination application to show case an organizations information. Marlanie lead the team in the development of the Screening Tool and is still actively involved in managing the maintenance and updates of the Screening Tool

    Dr Zakariyyaa Oumar

    Manager : Data Operations Unit at Department Forestry, Fisheries & Environment (DFFE)

    Dr Zakariyyaa Oumar holds a PhD in remote sensing and has over a decade of experience in geospatial modelling and earth observation applications. Dr Oumar also formed part of the team that developed the Screening Tool and is responsible for conditioning the various datasets that are part of the screening tool. He currently works for the of Department of Forestry, Fisheries and Environment managing the Data Operations unit.
