Impact Assessment in Protected Areas: Reflecting on IA, risks and sector specific issues in protected areas.

This event will focus on the critical role that environmental impact assessment (EIA) plays within protected areas. The event will provide insight into the quality and effectiveness of EIA in protected areas and reflect on the important role of best practice principles guiding EIAs undertaken within protected areas. Finally, the event will unpack a specific area of concern within the EIA process, namely waste management and subsequent mitigation measures within protected areas.

She also has a Masters Degree (NWU) in Environmental Sciences (Ecotoxicology), which focused on persistent organic pollutants in the water environment in the Vaal Triangle region – a Water Research Commission (WRC) project. She completed the degree in 2006 and graduated with distinction in 2007. From 2007 to 2010 she studied a PhD in Environmental Sciences (Ecotoxicology) at NWU. Her study focused on persistent organic pollutants in major rivers and cities in South Africa. The findings of her study was published in a WRC report titled “Persistent Organic Pollutants in the Water Environment”. During her studies she represented the NWU at national and international conferences and published her work in peer-reviewed journals such as Chemosphere, Soil and Sediment Contamination, and Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry, amongst others.
