Good internal audit report writing skills are crucial for internal auditors to create reports that are clear, logical, and convincing. Developing writing skills is key in delivering an Internal audit report and is an important deliverable for every Internal Audit assignment. Writing compelling content requires correct presentation and sequencing of observations and findings. A well-written report can enhance the credibility of both the Internal Auditor and the Internal Audit function whereas a badly written report can have an adverse effect which can end up putting all the effort to waste.

By participating in this workshop, auditors at all levels in the public and private sector organizations will learn what goes into an effective audit observation and how to organize reports that meet professional standards, elicit management action, communicate crucial messages to executives and board-level readers, and capture root cause analysis in reporting. By honing these skills, they can distinguish themselves in their current positions and prepare for advancement.

This three-day workshop focuses on the organization and structure of audit reports and includes case study activities for practicing the basics of audit reports.

The workshop will cover the following core areas:

  • Report that target audience.
  • Bring into play structured writing techniques that maximize acceptance of the audit viewpoint.
  • The five C's approach.
  • Process enhancements and corrective action taken during the audit.
  • Prioritizing and rating audit findings/ recommendations.
  • Report layout that catches readers' attention.
  • Quality checking detailed findings.
  • Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for Enhancing Internal Audit Effectiveness in reporting.

By attending this workshop, participants stand to gain by:

  • Understanding why and how writing is a distinct process.
  • Developing skills in the four stages of the writing process - analysis, organization, writing and revision as they apply to report writing for internal audit.
  • Analyzing the uses and readers of the audit report and other types of engagement reports.
  • Organizing the information in the audit report and other reporting documents.
  • Writing and revising reports with the appropriate tone, conciseness, readability, and clarity.

The workshop is ideal for:

  • Those who prepare audit reports or view and use internal audit reports.

The workshop will be held from May 22-24, 2024, at the Sarova Stanley Hotel, Nairobi. Charges are KES 49,000 and KES 55,000 exclusive of VAT for Members and Non-Members respectively. Members in attendance will earn 20 CPE Hours.
