Scams in the form of funds transfer fraud have been dominating the news, with over S$600 million lost in over 50,000 such scam cases in 2023 alone. And these eyewatering numbers are set to increase even further, with the Singapore Police Force recently warning that scams and cybercrime continue to be on the rise.

What also makes such scams hard to detect is that they come in a wide variety of formats and can involve the simple click on a phishing link contained in a SMS from a bank, or the use of sophisticated, deepfake technology to impersonate a CFO on a video call. In a world where the scammers always seem to be one step ahead, how can we keep ourselves safe?

In this complimentary session, we will delve into insurers' claim files and explore three (3) different types of scams involving funds transfer fraud, including social engineering fraud, compromise of IT systems and fraudulent instructions, and discuss the cover provided under crime insurance policies. We will also share insurers' insights into the prevention and mitigation of such fraud and what can be done to reduce the risk of becoming a victim.

For Whom

This session is designed for a broad spectrum of professionals in the insurance industry who are interested in claims under Crime Policies which includes Underwriters, Claims Professionals, Brokers and Agents.

  • Ms. Wong Gen Qing (Financial Lines Claims Manager โ€“ South East Asia & Korea at Chubb Asia Pacific)

    Ms. Wong Gen Qing

Financial Lines Claims Manager โ€“ South East Asia & Korea at Chubb Asia Pacific

Gen is Chubb’s Regional Financial Lines Claims Manager for South East Asia & Korea, and is based in Singapore.

In her role, Gen is responsible for overseeing a large and diverse portfolio of Financial Lines claims and works closely with the local Chubb claims teams around the region in managing and resolving a wide range of complex claims, including Cyber, Medical Malpractice, Professional Liability and D&O. She came into insurance as a burnt-out litigator and while the work-life balance is marginally better, she has to say that she’s never had a dull day at work. In fact, in her 12 years of being in the insurance industry, she has never seen a boring Financial Lines claim – and yes, she is aware how geeky that sounds.

Trained as a lawyer, with an LL.B from the University of Nottingham in England, Gen has been Called to the Bar of England & Wales, as well as the Malaysian Bar. Before moving into the Insurance industry, she practiced as a Litigation lawyer in a large Kuala Lumpur-based firm (and hence the burn-out).

Gen strongly believes in balancing mental and physical well-being and so in 2017 she became a fully-certified Pilates instructor. When not in corporate mode, she may be found teaching Pilates classes at a studio in the West of Singapore.
