He also served as Head of Mission of the EU Delegation to Laos (2012-2016), Ambassador of Belgium to Pakistan and Afghanistan (2006-2008), and Counsellor at the Belgian Representation to the UN in New-York (1998-2002). In between these assignments, he always served at the UN and Global affairs Directorate at the Belgian Foreign Ministry. Ambassador Goffin is a true believer in UN and multilateral affairs and in an international rules-based order. As a junior diplomat, Michel Goffin was assigned to Bagdad (1988), Canberra (1991) and Jakarta (1995) . He also co-founded Save Sharks Network Philippines (SSNP), a coalition of prominent organizations in the scientific, NGO, and tourism communities in the Philippines that campaign for the global protection of various shark species at CITES and CMS. He started in the early 90s as a student activist, then as a trade union organizer and a community organizer, before jumping ship to the environmental cause in early 2000s to co-lead Cebu Alliance for Renewable Energy and led various successful environmental campaigns such as the campaign against the reclamation project in Panglao Bohol. Her responsibilities span product development, stewardship development, visitor management, and communications.
Her project has recently received special commendations for the Pathfinder Award granted by the IUCN, UNDP & WildArk for financing and resourcing innovations for conservation. Last year, he was awarded full scholarships to attend executive programs on climate change and development at the University of East Anglia (United Kingdom) and sustainability leadership at Yale University (USA). After working in marine conservation in the Maldives and Malaysia, Wakao joined Greenpeace Japan as a Senior Ocean Campaigner, where he started the Sustainable Seafood Market Project. Later, Wakao founded Seafood Legacy in Tokyo in 2015, to build Japan-centric solutions for seafood sustainability by addressing the importance of domestic business-led initiatives to create a driving force for regulatory reforms. Wakao is also an Expert Advisor of the Cabinet Office Council for Promotion of Regulatory Reform Fishery Working Group, a Committee Member of the Fishery Agency Wide Sea-area Fisheries Adjustment Commission, and a Collaborator member of the Conservation Alliance for Seafood Solutions (CASS).
