Event Details

This tool training provides the fundamental skills and materials knowledge you'll need for future projects in jewelry and metalsmithing. Students will receive an introduction to basic metals (copper, brass, nickel, silver) and their characteristics, Up-close demonstrations of basic techniques: sawing, filing, sanding, texturing, stamping and polishing.

Students will also receive an overview of our metalsmithing equipment: bench pin, jeweler's saws and files, disc cutter, acetylene torch (with flux coating and pickle bath), flex shaft and attachments, rolling mill, ring bender, dapping blocks (dome and u-channel), steel block, punches, stamping tools, a variety of hammers, and the buffers and polishes.

In addition, each student will make and take home a small, personalized charm designed in their choice of metal and pattern.


Attendance at both sessions is mandatory.

Please bring a mask for operation of the polishing wheel.

    Jolynn is an artist and educator from Ohio. She received her BFA in Jewelry Metal and Enameling from Kent State University. After working as a Bench Jeweler in New York City, she pursued an MFA in Metal from the State University of New York at New Paltz, where she was an Instructor of Record. Jolynn was a 2019 2020 Artist-in-Residence at Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts. Most recently, she was a faculty member at Montgomery University and Towson University, as well as an instructor at the Baltimore Jewelry Center.
