The Kenya Green Building Society (KGBS) is an independent, non-profit membership-based society registered with the World Green Building Council as its Kenya Chapter. KGBS is mandated to certify the built environment, advocate for green buildings and train green building professionals. KGBS is the leading Green Building movement in the Kenyan market that ensures buildings are designed and built sustainably.
The National Construction Authority is a State Corporation established under section 3 (1) of the National Constitution. The mandate of the Authority is to oversee the construction industry and coordinate its development. The NCA is also a strategic affiliate of KGBS.
Pursuant to the provisions of section 42 (2)(aa) of the National Constructions Authority act No 41of 2011, the cabinet secretary of the Ministry of Transport, Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development and public works in consultation with the board of the National Construction Authority has developed the Draft National Building Regulations which can be downloaded below.

Elizabeth Wangeci Chege is firstly a wife and mother. She is the CEO and co-founder of WEB Limited, a sustainable construction consultancy, the chairperson of the Kenya Green Building Society (KGBS) and was nominated and appointed in 2017 as the World Green Building Council Africa Regional Network Vice Chairperson, (The first Kenyan and female to hold the continental position).
Through her volunteer role at Kenya Green Building Society, Elizabeth has collaboratively led the transformation of the built environment in Kenya by embedding green building practices into the industry and extending it to green schools thus mitigating greenhouse gas emission, human health enhancement and boldly stimulating the green jobs agenda. Beyond technical leadership, Elizabeth believes it is our noble responsibility, as a human community, to enhance the environment in our economic pursuits.
A milestone for KGBS led by Elizabeth was the signing of local counties onto the World Resources Institute Building Efficiency Accelerator Program. Nairobi County Council and Kisii County Council signed up in 2017. More Counties are geared to join.

June Arunga Kimani founded Usafi Comfort to address the critical shortage of wastewater treatment for the millions that live outside of the municipal sewer infrastructure in East Africa. By bringing together technology and financial partners, developing the public knowledge base about wastewater treatment, and championing regulatory policy development, June and Usafi Comfort are innovating business models and revolutionizing water sanitation in this nascent market.
Besides her public policy advocacy in water sanitation, June is a strong advocate for policies and technologies that secure property rights and promote intra-African trade and migration, laying the foundation for wealth creation in Africa.She has been writer and presenter for notable television programs, including two BBC documentaries, highlighting her policy views. One featured a journey from Cairo to Cape Town, where she brought to light the political and economic impediments to Africa’s growth. Another took her on a road trip across Africa with the former president of Ghana, as they met with African heads of state to discuss what can be done to lift up Africa’s people in the future.

Ochieng is an Energy expert with a background in energy management. He currently serves as the Managing Director at Endustrial Support Ltd, a firm that offers advisory in climate protection, energy efficiency and responsible use of resources. With an illustrious career spanning educational institutions, multinational manufacturing firms as well as several energy and climate related audit work for various firms, he brings in a wealth of knowledge and expertise in energy management and efficient power utilization. He has received a string of accolades for his work, including the 2014 Sastri Dishpande Award, 2014 Outstanding Senior Campus and Community Contributions and the 2012 Annual COBI Business Innovation Competition 2012

His professional career between 1990 and 2013 spanned four years of audit & advisory practice at Price Waterhouse in Toronto, Canada covering banking; investment fund; oil & gas; pulp & paper; and not-for-profit clients. Following this, he joined one of his clients and worked in 11 different roles over 19 years of investment banking experience at J.P. Morgan in Canada, the UK, the US, Russia, Central & Eastern Europe, Sub-Saharan Africa and Latin America. His banking career involved roles in Finance, Mergers & Acquisitions, Operations, Technology, and Corporate Strategy, where he built a reputation of integrity and professionalism in helping J.P.Morgan establish and grow in emerging markets.
He earned his Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation through the California Board of Accountancy in San Diego, CA, USA in 1996, prior to which he earned his Bachelor of Commerce at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada in 1990 with a concentration in Finance & Accountancy. In the property sector, he earned a Greenstar SA Accredited Professional – New Buildings.
Since his undergraduate days, Muddy built a long history of philanthropic engagement with healthcare and nutrition based charities on a volunteer, donor, fundraiser and non-executive director level in Canada, the UK, and Brazil and is now doing the same in Kenya.

Cecilia is a collaborative leader and asset in environments where she leverages her strategic formulation skills in order to empower others to enhance business process improvement (BPI), with emphasis on product/service innovation, quality assurance, and, sustainable (Triple Bottom Line aka TBL) business model integration.
Over the years she has learned that transformative change is a slow process. People need time to assimilate and integrate before they can utilize new approaches and methods. Slow and small solutions (permaculture thinking) allow for self-empowered mastery to develop.
There are several process improvement tools she enjoys using:
+ lean (continuous process improvement focused on kaizen - good change - and the elimination of defects, especially muda - things that are futile or wasteful)
+ six sigma (standardized measurement of incremental changes benchmarked by the goals of the customer)
+ human centered design (efficiency and effectiveness are not standalone objectives; the ultimate users of products and services are humans which means design must first be approached from the perspective of how the end user reacts in his/her natural environment; the fewer adaptations an end user needs to make, the greater the likelihood they will find a product or service useful).
+ business model innovation aka lean canvass (rapid prototyping enables a business to quickly and affordably test reactions to products/services so that development is based upon actual end user/customer data not simulations or assumptions that fail to account for idiosyncratic behaviors)
+ triple bottom line (accounting is both a financial and economic measure which should integrate the negative or positive externalities - impact on social and environmental conditions - with generally accepted financial measures of performance).
