The Program

Original Thinkers

David Holbrooke returns with Original Thinkers to meld speakers, films and performances into powerful experiences that enlighten and motivate audience members.

Holbrooke's connection with the best and brightest minds in the industry opens the door for L3 members to talk with these thought leaders and visionaries. His well-honed interview skills always lead to deep, informative conversations.

The films will be announced later this year.

We could not make this event work without the efforts of Joanne and Jim Steinback. Thank you Joanne and Jim for reviewing and selecting our films and topics for the seventh straight year.

Special Features

Acadia National Park Tour

We'll board a trolley and travel into the stunning Acadia National Park to learn about the park's unique history and see its diverse geology, flora and fauna. We'll see the historic mansions on our way and view the spectacular scenery of Paradise Hill, Frenchman Bay, the summit of Cadillac Mountain, Thunder Hole on Ocean Drive and the Jordan Pond area. This 2.5-hour tour includes three 15-minute stops for walks and photos.

Cadillac Summit

Cadillac Mountain is the highest point on the eastern seaboard of the U.S., and offers magnificent views of a glaciated coastal and island landscape. People have enjoyed the spectacular views from Cadillac Mountain (formerly Green Mountain) for thousands of years. This area is the homeland of the Wabanaki people. European settlement on Mount Desert Island begin in the 1600s, and soon after the summit was used for mapping the coastline.

Thunder Hole

Nothing symbolizes the power of Acadia National Park as much as Thunder Hole. When the right size wave rolls into the naturally formed inlet, a deep thunderous sound emanates. It's caused by a small cavern just beneath the surface of the water. When the wave pulls back just before lunging forward, it dips the water just below the ceiling of the cavern, allowing air to enter. When the wave arrives full force, it collides with the air and sounds like distant thunder. Water may splash into the air as high as 40 feet.

Jordan Pond

Jordan Pond in Acadia National Park near Bar Harbor, Maine covers 187 acres to a maximum depth of 150 feet with a shoreline of 3.6 miles. The pond was formed by the Wisconsin Ice Sheet during the last glacial period.

Carriage Roads – Hike, bike or ride

Forty-five miles of rustic carriage roads, the gift of philanthropist John D. Rockefeller Jr. and his family, weave around the mountains and valleys of Acadia National Park. Rockefeller, a skilled horseman, wanted to travel on motor-free byways via horse and carriage into the heart of Mount Desert Island. His construction efforts from 1913 to 1940 resulted in roads with sweeping vistas and close-up views of the landscape. His love of road building ensured a state-of-the-art system.

Havana Restaurant

Havana has been committed to serving local and organic meats, produce and seafood since it opened 20 years ago. Its meats are "naturally and humanely raised" meaning no steroids, antibiotics or hormones with room to roam, proper shelter and gentle handling. Havana's seafood is sustainably harvested from the Gulf of Maine and New England farmers' produce is great tasting and great for the environment and local economy as well. Havana is the winner of Wine Spectator Award of Excellence from 2004 to the present.
