This training provides safety and basic operations training on our laser machine. Students will learn about machine components, materials to use, machine and print job setup, and vector software basics. This will get participants up and running on the machine with a hands-on introduction to Adobe Illustrator. Participants will create a simple design in Illustrator and then cut and etch it in wood for their first laser cutting experience.
What if there was a high school that was like the Generator, where the students got to make amazing projects and earned credit for them? Well, that’s where Jim Shields has been teaching since 2009. As an advisor at Big Picture South Burlington, a project-based, experiential learning, student-centered high school, Jim helps his students create their personalized DIY curriculum. This is what brought Jim to the Generator in 2014: to work with students on building a ChampBot and making custom board games with the laser cutter and 3D printer, and he never left!
