Legal | Reg Tech Workshop

Online and In-Person

Confirmed startups:

Dear Friends and Colleagues:

I am so delighted that we can again welcome guests in person to Bonny Doon for our 4th annual Legal|Reg Tech Workshop! For those that are not able to travel to Bonny Doon, the workshop will be hybrid — you can also attend online.

This year should be our best ever! As you will have seen above, we have confirmed 14 exciting startups for our Workshop.

We will also put on a series of subject matter discussion panels and presentations by leading investors, corporates, law firms, and other experts. Mike Suchsland of Bridge Investments will lead a panel on "Contract Lifecycle Management Platforms", with Ken Crutchfield of Wolters Kluwer and David Wang of Wilson Sonsini. I am pleased that Professor Roland Vogl of Stanford Law School has agreed to talk about "Developments at CodeX -- the Stanford Center for Legal Informatics"Scott Mozarsky, a leading legaltech banker at Jegi Clarity, will speak on "How to Pitch your Legaltech Company to Investors", which will lead into a panel on "The Financing and Exit Environment for Legal/Reg Tech" moderated by me, with Thomas Martin of Hg Capital and Scott as panelists.

The in-person Workshop will be held at my mountain retreat in Bonny Doon, near Santa Cruz. Those of you who have come before know that it is a beautiful natural environment conducive to relaxed discussions. We are in a clearing in a redwood forest, with gardens and orchards, and overlooking my pond. Socializing will be enhanced by lots of breaks, fruit picking, walks around the pond, a reception at the end of the day, a folk music band, and a nice lunch and hearty dinner.

In order to allow for plenty of breaks for networking during the main event, we will be asking the startups to make their presentations online on September 15, one week in advance. All attendees will have the opportunity to watch these presentations live, or thru video recordings, and then one person from each startup will be invited to attend in-person and make brief demos and answer questions during main event

In-person attendance will be limited to about 35 persons (other than the startups), so please sign up soon!

Online attendees will have access to all the presentations through Zoom. We will have a camera crew, monitors, speakers and microphones in the main meeting room to produce the online program and permit online presenters to appear on screen. They will be able to ask questions through the Zoom chat function. Presentations will be recorded and made available to all attendees.

In view of the Delta Variant situation (and in compliance with new Santa Cruz Country regulations) we are strengthening our policies for in-person attendees. We will be asking that all attendees wear masks while indoors (except when speaking at the podium). We are also limiting the number of in-person attendees to about 40 and we will be serving all meals outdoors. And as previously announced, we will be requiring all in-person attendees (and service personnel) to provide us with proof of vaccination.

Looking forward to seeing you at Bonny Doon (or online)!

regards
