Dear Friends and Colleagues,

Our 5th Annual Legal|Reg Tech Workshop is coming to Bonny Doon! We will be gathering at a tempestuous time for markets and finance, and in spite/because of that, progress in legal and reg tech continues apace. Tech penetration rates in the legal industry are still much lower than other comparable fields, which means there is a lot of upsides for gains, as evidenced by the heightened pace of financings and M&A in the sector.

We aim to showcase a broad variety of startups that reflect the many areas where technology can make the industry more efficient and provide new solutions not covered by traditional practices.  We have interviewed many excellent startup candidates, and we have confirmed a terrific lineup of 9. The other half of the program consists of four highly topical discussion panels, with quite a few industry leaders speaking:

Legal Collaboration Platforms: What Does Success Look Like?

Ali Shahidi, Sheppard Mullin (moderator)

Katherine DeKam, Acumed

Daniel Farris, NMBL Technologies

Naveen Pai, Gunderson

Fireside Chat: Touraj Parang discusses his new book, "Exit Path"

An interview by Nick Sramek

The M&A Environment for Legal|Reg Tech

Scott Mozarsky, JEGI Clarity (moderator)

Haley Altman, Litera

Kevin Smith, DISCO

Zach Posner, LegalTech Fund

Trade-offs between Legal Industry Solutions and General Enterprise Solutions

Peter Krakaur, Ernst & Young (moderator)

Shelby Austin, Arteria

Chris Petrini-Poli, HBR Consulting

Julian Tsisin, Meta

Fireside Chat: What are the LegalTech needs of a Large Financial Institution?

An interview with Terry Theologides, GC of Fannie Mae, by Howard Chao

The Workshop will be held at my mountain retreat in Bonny Doon, near Santa Cruz. Those of you who have come before knowing that it is a beautiful natural environment ideal for relaxed discussions, located in a clearing in the redwood forest, with gardens and orchards, and overlooking my pond. Socializing will be enhanced by lots of breaks, fruit picking, walks around the pond, and at the end of the day a wine and beer reception, live music and a hearty dinner. (For those that come for the fruit, pears, apples and figs should be in season in late September.)

In order to allow time for networking during the main event, we will be asking the startups to make their long-form presentations online in advance of the main event. All attendees will have the opportunity to watch these presentations thru video recordings, and then one person from each startup will be asked to attend in-person, make a brief demo and answer questions during main event

In-person attendance is limited to about 60 persons. Sign up early to secure your spot!

Online attendees will have access to all the presentations through Zoom. We will have cameras, monitors, speakers and microphones in the main meeting room to produce the online program. Online attendees will be able to ask questions through the Zoom chat function. Presentations will be recorded and made available to all attendees.

IN VIEW OF THE COVID VARIANT SITUATION, FOR THE PROTECTION OF OUR ATTENDEES AND YOUR PEACE OF MIND WE WILL BE ASKING ALL IN-PERSON ATTENDEES TO PROVIDE US WITH PROOF OF VACCINATION. MASKS WILL BE OPTIONAL DURING OUR MEETINGS.

Looking forward to seeing you at Bonny Doon (or online)!

regards
