MALE OSTEOPOROSIS CAUSES A SIGNIFICANT BURDEN ON THE MORBIDITY, MORTALITY AND ECONOMIC COST OF THE COUNTRY.
Osteoporosis is the thinning of the bones. It is usually thought of as a woman's disease, but osteoporosis also affects men. According to statistics, up to 25 per cent of all fractures that occur in people over 50 occur in men and 1 out of 8 men in India are affected by Osteoporosis. Osteoporosis affects 8.5 % of healthy males aged 50 years and above. Studies have shown that men with osteoporotic fractures have a much higher mortality and morbidity when compared to women.
The lack of awareness of osteoporosis and fractures in men, together with the overall negligence of men towards their health, there is a great need for spreading awareness on the risk factors and preventive and treatment measures for this disease.
