As I know you will be aware, Her Majesty The Queen passed away on 8 September. This is a moment of sadness and national mourning for the UK and, for the vast majority of British people, the first time we have experienced a change in our Head of State in our lifetimes.
I know many British people living overseas will feel further away from home than usual during such a moment of national significance, when our friends and family at home are united with others across the country in shared grief.
As such, I would like to arrange a simple ceremony at the Residence on Sunday 18 September at 11.00 for the British community in Phnom Penh to come together and remember The Queen. The format will be simple and dignified – a short memorial ceremony followed by tea/coffee and cake. I would suggest a smart casual dress code, though please dress how you feel most comfortable.
I want the focus of this event to be the British community so will not be inviting government representatives or the wider international community. British nationals are of course welcome to bring their non-British partners and children. Please do also pass on this email to your British friends in Phnom Penh as we do not have a comprehensive database of British nationals in Cambodia.
We will be asking attendees to show evidence of British nationality (eg passport) on arrival at the Residence, Street 240 (Between Street 19 and Wat Botum Park)
Please register via the link above, registration will close on Saturday 17 September at 12 noon.
I look forward to meeting some of you on the weekend.
Best wishes,
Dominic
