Dear Friends and Colleagues,

The agenda for our next Mobility Tech Salon at Bonny Doon has really come together! As those of you who have come before know, our Salons are not your usual conferences. They are very small, highly interactive sessions where the job of Discussion Leaders is to introduce the subject matter, then incite a group discussion. Everyone has a microphone. Attendance is capped at 40. There are no wall flowers.

As usual, we have consulted with our core network to build out an agenda of key discussion topics in global mobility. Here are the Discussion Panels:

1.     Why Has Electrification Stalled in the US (or has it)?

     Discussion Leaders:

  • Tony Cannestra, Denso
  • Prescott Watson, RedBlue Capital
  • Eric Owski, Treehouse
  • EV Sales are slowing
  • Analysis of the impact of different strategies in electrification (BEV vs. Hybrid vs. hydrogen)
  • The Cost of EVs
  • The Chinese elephant in the room
  • The Problem of Charging Networks
  • Have politics and the culture wars come to EVs?

2.     The State of Drone Commercialization

     Discussion Leaders:

  • Alexandra Blake, Elroy Air
  • Brian Flynn, Diamond Stream Ventures
  • Darren Liccardo, Catapult Ventures
  • Consequences of BVLOS Technology
  • Air Traffic for drones
  • Where have drones made the biggest impact?
  • Will we ever get a commercial communication network to monitor and control drones?

 3.    Debate: Is US Industrial Policy Working for Mobility?

  • Howard Chao, Doon Insights (referee)
  • Bill Russo, Automobility Ltd. (it's not working)
  • Justin Savage, Sidley (it's working)

As compelling and timely as these Panels will be, even more amazing is how our community has taken the initiative to propose a candy store of mini-sessions. 15 minutes of fame for everyone -- Andy Warhol would support this!

SOMM ("Something on My Mind") Sessions

  • Danny Bernstein, HawkTower: Advanced Air Mobility in Underleveraged California
  • Vito Giallorenzo, Blackberry: The Promises and Challenges of getting to Software-Defined Vehicles
  • Cory Hohs, Haas Alert: The Disruptive Opportunity of Connectivity in Transportation
  • Richard Hawwa, Nomura Greentech: Autonomy: The Past, The Present and The Future
  • Rafferty Jackson, Jack Industries: Adding Aerospace to Multimodal Mobility
  • William Herrmann, Citibank: Financing in a Post-ZIRP World
  • Sujoy Sarkar, Assembly Ventures: Man vs. Machine
  • Lola Woetzel, McKinsey: Municipal Planning and Mobility
  • Raymond Zheng, Honda Innovations: Moving Hydrogen from Heavy Industry to Passenger Vehicles

The venue is my mountain retreat in Bonny Doon in the Santa Cruz Mountains, in the redwood forest. As is always the case in Bonny Doon, the day will be very convivial and social. After lunch we will do our usual walk around the gardens, orchard and pond. At the end of the day we will enjoy a fine wine/beer reception, live music, and a hearty dinner together.

We still have seats so if you are interested, please register at the link below.

Looking forward to seeing you in Bonny Doon!

Regards,

Howard Chao
