Come to one or all three of these workshops (Structure, Hooks, Story Arc) for picture-book writers or author/illustrators and take a fresh look at three seemingly difficult topics that are actually simpler than you think. Through sharing examples and participating in exercises, writers will walk away with renewed energy for your craft.

January 11: Picture Book Structure: Adam Rex once tweeted: "A picture book is a message of humanity sent to another planet with a brand new kind of people. And you have to get it right in <1000 words." At the heart of "getting it right" is structure. Sounds hard—but it's easier than you might think!

January 18: Picture Book Hooks: Tired of hearing about hooks? Or maybe you've never heard of them at all! Picture books need a way to grab hold of more than one audience: the person who buys it (usually an adult) and the kid reader. That takes hooks.

January 25: Picture BookStory Arc: This just means plot, right? Nope! It's a little different. But how? Let's talk story arc and how it comes into play in every kind of picture book—fiction, nonfiction, story, concept, survey, and more. Strengthening up those arcs is integral!

! Add on Critique: Receive in-depth feedback from Karen Boss for ONE picture book manuscript
