Online marketplaces and e-commerce platforms in Malaysia have become a hotbed for merchants selling counterfeit products during the past years. The COVID-19 pandemic has made it much worse as demands for online products have increased exponentially due to the various lockdown, working from home and social distancing measures implemented globally including Malaysia, preventing shoppers from visiting physical stores in favour of online stores, even for basic essentials and various personal protective products.
Online shopping trends are likely to continue as staying home has become the new normal even after the situation subsides.
