With India heading to elections in May 2024, the Australia India Chamber of Commerce is delighted to have the new High Commissioner for India, His Excellency Gopal Baglay share his thoughts about they key issues in the election, how Australia companies can leverage opportunities in India through both export and investment, the role of the QUAD and how Australia can be a key strategic partner for India in the years ahead.

His Excellency brings a rich background of experience and expertise to his new role. He holds a Master's degree in chemistry from Lucknow University. He is also proficient in multiple languages, including Hindi, Urdu, Sanskrit, English, Ukrainian, Russian, and Nepali.

Mr Baglay served as spokesperson and Joint Secretary for Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Iran in the Ministry of External Affairs. Later, he became Joint Secretary in the Prime Minister's Office before becoming the High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka in May 2020.
