This 2-day online course aims to provide health care professionals with the knowledge and insight necessary to address self-regulating protective systems that are important components of pain experiences. Of these, the immune system, autonomic nervous system and endocrine system will be covered. Participants will be equipped with the latest research and evidence in how these systems may influence the experience of pain and how the ongoing experience of pain impacts on the functioning of these systems.

Concepts of allostasis and self-regulation within the context of pain rehabilitation will be considered. Evidence-based interventions and strategies that are useful to help patients learn the skills to reduce the impact of their condition on their valued lives will be discussed.
