Welcome the New Year with fresh insights and outlook on the Philippine and global economy this 2022!
A surge of COVID-19 infections is rippling across the world, with the Omicron variant spreading to register record new cases, upending lives and threatening to derail recovery from the last months of 2021. What should we expect given this pandemic, in terms of its economic effects in 2022? It was predicted that all countries in the ASEAN, including the Philippines, will see an acceleration in growth this year, as higher private spending boosts domestic activity. Add to that the fact that 2022 is also an election year in the Philippines, which traditionally has had very positive effects on the country's economy. The accelerating vaccination campaigns also bode well for activity in 2022. Indeed, it is the spectre of the highly infectious COVID variant that makes the road ahead challenging.
Join us this 8 February 2022, 4:00-5:00 p.m. (via Zoom) as we understand the path forward in light of these contexts. Joining us as keynote speakers are Jonathan Ravelas, Chief Market Strategy of BDO Unibank, who will provide perspectives on the Philippines, and Khoon Goh, Head of Asia Research, ANZ, who will provide perspectives on Asia/the world.
