Event Details

Myanmar is going through one of the most tumultuous periods in its history. The country - once an acclaimed frontier market in Southeast Asia - is struggling to rise to its recent challenges, including a disastrous response to the pandemic and the current political turmoil and consequent economic slump. Myanmar's economic data portrays a disappointing picture for the country of 54 million people, now poised to face a doubling in the poverty rate in early 2022. Furthermore, these underlying challenges that the country faces inhibit Myanmar from supporting innovative local companies as other countries of similar levels of development are able to. In this context, business and investor ties with Myanmar and their role in contributing to a positive social and environmental outcome have become important points for discussion.

In this event, economists, policy analysts and business leaders on the ground in Myanmar will shed light on the key developments since early 2021, their response while navigating the political and economic crisis and plans to thrive moving forward.
