Structuring your Deals to Deliver Exponential Value !!

First Runway Event of the Year !

If you don't set yourself up well at the beginning it makes it more difficult later on to deliver outsized success.

This is a full day of sharing insights, practical advice and examples to help you grow and scale value. We also provide lots of opportunities to make new friends and valuable connections.

It is designed for angel backed startups - their founders and existing and budding investor directors.

It will be held in Auckland and includes:

  • three sessions fronted by highly experienced VCs and members of the ecosystem
  • our incredibly noisey and fun speed dating session - such a great way to meet everyone in the room!
  • on top of this, as always, we'll send each founder a list of five investors they should definitely try and meet during the day
  • and at the end of the day we provide one more networking opportunity over a glass of wine.

In the workshop we will cover:

Structuring deals and cap table planning.

This session focuses on the really important practical aspects of structuring a deal and hones in on decisions that can make it more difficult for venture investors to invest in your company in follow on rounds. For example how much of the cap table should you set aside for employee share ownership (ESOP). This will be a moderated panel with opportunity to ask experienced VCs and founders plenty of questions.

A deep dive into investment terms.

There are common terms that pop up in most investment rounds for most early stage companies but sometimes the specific wording can have unintended consequences for either the company or the investor if not they are fully understood. In this session we will take a deep dive into key investment terms to raise awareness about what they might mean in specific contexts eg., sole founder or multiple founders, tag and drag rights.

Raising offshore capital.

Although New Zealand startups now have far more choice when it comes to follow on capital, it's still wise to understand and build relationships with offshore capital providers, especially in those the markets you're exploring for your startup. This session will focus on strategies to help identify and attract offshore investors, how do you get yourself into onto their radar and into their pipeline. We will focus especially on the fundamental differences in the early stage landscape between the US and NZ.
