After Hours Tour at The Valentine

Join SEGD Richmond for an after-hours, guided tour of Sculpting History at the Valentine Studio: Art, Power, and the "Lost Cause" American Myth at The Valentine designed by Studio Joseph. We will hear a few words from Christina Keyser Vida, The Valentine's Curator of General Collections, about how this exhibit came to be. Capitol Museum Services will also join us in providing a few behind-the-scenes details on how this exhibit was fabricated and installed.

Opening in January 2024, Sculpting History uses evidence to show how Edward Valentine, leaders in Richmond, and others around the country reframed the reality of the Civil War. It uncovers the stories behind the Lost Cause, its legacy, and those who resisted the myth. The exhibit comprises artworks sculpted by Edward Valentine and documents, objects, images, quotations, and questions to connect the Lost Cause myth to today. A powerful multimedia presentation reveals links between the Lost Cause campaign, Edward Valentine, and Richmond's monuments.

Tickets are $5 for Members and $10 for Non-Members. $5 from each ticket purchase will go directly to The Valentine for hosting us.

After we tour the exhibit, please join us for a happy hour drink at Fall Line Kitchen & Bar.
