Welcome speech: Empowering SMEs in achieving true international potential

Datuk Mohd Zamree Mohd Ishak was appointed as the President / Chief Executive Officer of Credit Guarantee Corporation Malaysia Berhad (CGC) on 1 January 2015. He brings with him a vast experience in banking operations, consumer banking, corporate banking and Islamic finance. He has held several key positions in Maybank which includes Executive Assistant to the President/Chief Executive Officer, Vice President of Consumer Banking, Executive Vice President of Corporate Banking. He also served as the Chief Operations Officer of INCEIF - The Global University of Islamic Finance. Zamree spearheaded the execution of CGC 5-Year Strategic Plan 2016-2020, aimed at ensuring that CGC becomes more proactive and remains relevant, drives sustainable growth, enhance its human capital capabilities as well as increase its efficiency and effectiveness; and embarks on digitisation. He played a key role in the launch of imSME - Malaysia’s 1st online financing/loan referral platform which is CGC’s maiden fintech initiative; and the recently launched Khidmat Nasihat Pembiayaan (MyKNP) aimed at increasing SMEs’ eligibility in securing financing.

Dzuleira Abu Bakar is the Chief Executive Officer of the Malaysian Global Innovation and Creativity Centre (MaGIC). Prior to this, Dzuleira was the CEO of Cradle Seed Ventures (CSV), a growth stage venture capital fund which is part of Cradle Fund Sdn Bhd, Malaysia’s premier early stage funding agency and influencer. She is also an appointed Council Member of the National ICT Association of Malaysia (PIKOM). Dzuleira is no stranger to the entrepreneurship ecosystem both in the country and the region. She brings with her years of experience in the tech ecosystem, nurturing and growing promising tech startups. Dzuleira has served in various roles across government agencies, GLCs as well as the private sector with deep experience across multiple industries in particular technology and innovation, honing skills in venture capital & private equity, corporate finance, legal & governance, deal structuring and stakeholder management among others.

Mohd. Rithaudden is currently the Chief Officer, Ecosystem Development with the SME Corporation Malaysia, a Central Coordinating Agency under the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development that formulates overall policies and strategies for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and coordinates the implementation of SME development programmes across all related Ministries and Agencies. Prior to joining SME Corp. Malaysia, he was the Vice President of Channel Management at a reputable bank in Malaysia overseeing the branch development, physical and virtual touch points of the bank. He has held various positions and responsibilities in various departments and financial institutions in his 12 years within the banking sector.

Lai Pei-Si is the Country Head of Retail Banking for Standard Chartered Bank Malaysia Berhad and was appointed to this role on 1 January 2019. Pei-Si is responsible for building a sustainable retail franchise, optimising market opportunities for targeted segments and the implementation of the Bank’s digital services within Retail Banking. In addition, Pei-Si will continue to lead several strategic programmes for the ASEAN and South Asia (ASA) region. Pei-Si has 20 years’ experience across various roles in retail banking, strategy, product management, branch operations, regulatory governance, and business optimisation. She was also previously the Chief Executive Officer and Head, Retail Clients for Standard Chartered Bank in Brunei, taking on the dual role of both governance and business head and successfully navigated the regulatory landscape and market challenges to build a sustainable franchise in the country.

Sridharan Nair (or Sri) is PwC Malaysia's Managing Partner and the Territory Senior Partner of the PwC Malaysia-Vietnam firm. Sri is also a member of PwC’s Asia Pacific Executive Board and Chairman of the Board of its South East Asia Consulting practice. He is an alumnus of Universiti Malaya and qualified as a Chartered Accountant with a Big 4 firm in London. He has 30 years' experience in audit and business advisory services, having worked with a wide range of clients in the UK and Malaysia. He has been responsible for a portfolio of large listed clients across various industries including financial institutions and has led a number of cross border financial due diligence assignments. Sri has been a regular speaker, panellist and moderator at various conferences and forums in Malaysia, and has spoken on topics such as leadership, corporate governance, board diversity, current economic issues, human capital and talent development.

Dato' Ir. Dr. Dennis Ganendra the Chief Executive Officer of Minconsult, and is the first individual to helm the Company since the time of its Founding Fathers. As Project Director for over twenty years, Dato’ Dennis Ganendra has managed gifted professionals in local and international projects for extensive work scope including: highways, ports, airports, railways, power plants, petro-chemical plants, industrial plants, high rise buildings, water treatment plants and sewerage treatment plants. Minconsult has consequently developed as a major engineering force internationally, having secured projects from international funding agencies such as Asian Development Bank (ADB), World Bank (WB), Islamic Development Bank (IDB) and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). Projects from multi-national corporations and foreign governments have covered over 25 countries in 5 continents. Raj Tatavarty (Raj) has more than 18 years of work experience spanning across Asia, Middle East and Africa regions. As an SME expert, for most part of his career Raj has been involved with Small and Medium enterprises segment in various capacities ranging from designing strategy, overseeing the business, launching new products, managing credit & operational risk to heading the overall SME business. He has been with Standard Chartered bank for more than 14 years and has worked with SMEs across continents in India, Bahrain, Africa and Singapore. He currently heads the Business Banking division at Standard Chartered Malaysia. A Chartered Accountant from India and Management Graduate from INSEAD, Raj closely follows the latest developments in the fast changing banking and fintech landscape. Especially in the small business space he is leading some of the initiatives that make banking for SMEs simple and accessible. He also participates in financial literacy sessions to SMEs from time to time

The turning point came when she discovered her allergies to gluten, wheat, dairy and egg, which had unknowingly been causing problems for years. By cutting out these allergens, eating clean, unprocessed foods and working out more regularly, her health and well-being drastically improved. Due to the lack of information on healthy options in Malaysia, it was no easy feat to bring about this lifestyle change. She knew it was possible to live healthy in Asia, but people just needed to know how. On a mission to make it easy for anyone to lead a healthy lifestyle, she started PurelyB - a one-stop destination and guide for all your nutrition, fitness and wellness needs.

Nicholas Loh was formerly working in SME & Business Banking Division of Standard Chartered Bank, Citibank & CIMB Bank for 9 years. He then co-founded TRL in 2012, which has regional companies in Hong Kong, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore and China for fresh tropical fruits & food service business within these 7 years. Core business of TRL is exporting fresh and frozen durian products to more than 13 countries. In 2018, TRL purchased more than 800 tonnes of fresh durian to process and export. Besides durian, TRL also export fresh & processed dragon fruit, passion fruit, soursop, banana, sweet potato & pomelo. TRL operates own factories in Malaysia and Vietnam and employs more than 50 staffs. The company will start a pilot durian farming project of 45 acres in 2020 and gradually expand to other fruits to secure more supply. They currently run mostly on B2B concept but is gaining track on B2C in China through own distribution and via online platform

Cheng-Fei Wong is the Founder, Chief Executive Officer (“CEO”) and Executive Producer of Lemon Sky Studios. Fei together with his co-founder, Ken Foong, grew Lemon Sky Studios to where it is today, a leading independent game art, animation and VFX studio in the region. Lemon Sky Studios has been producing high-quality games art and animation content for major clients and partners like EA, Microsoft, Sony, Disney, Blizzard, WB Games, Square Enix, 2k Games, Bandai Namco, Capcom, Bethesda Softworks, Konami, Nickelodeon, Nelvana, Spin Master and many mores. Lemon Sky Studios is currently one of the top CGI service providers in the region and one of the largest CGI studios in Malaysia.

Captain Ahmad Kamal bin Kamarudin is the Founder & Chief Executive Officer of TS Maritime Sdn. Bhd. which was formerly known as Team Ship Management Sdn. Bhd. The company in the early days provided services such as Project Management and Marine Consultancy. To date he is involved in Innovative Ship Design and Newbuilding. He gained 38 years experience in the shipping industry. He had served 12 years at sea with command experienced onboard all types of vessel from bulk carriers, product and crude oil tankers and container ships. He was in various leadership positions and responsible for the business development, overall planning and implementation of plans in shipping organizations. He was also involved in Ship Chartering and Ship Brokering for over 23 years.
