South Asian Bar Association of British Columbia

The South Asian Bar Association of British Columbia (SABABC) is dedicated to, among other things, supporting the local South Asian community, promoting the professional development of South Asian lawyers, paralegals and law students, and representing the interests of South Asians locally, nationally and internationally.

SABABC is committed to promoting the professional development of the South Asian legal community through networking, advocacy and mentoring. SABABC hosts panels, continuing legal education courses, and workshops on career development, social justice issues, and current events.

SABABC aims to remove any barriers South Asian students may face in pursuing a career in the legal profession and those barriers faced by the South Asian community in learning about and accessing legal services and educational programs in the community.

We invite the South Asian community to please join SABABC in its commitment to achieving these goals.

Jeevyn Dhaliwal, K.C.
On January 1, 2024, Jeevyn Dhaliwal, K.C. assumed the office of President of the Law Society of British Columbia, the highest post within our self-regulatory body. Jeevyn is the first south Asian to ascend to the position, and one of the few women or racialized persons that has done so. We at SABABC who have benefited tremendously from Jeevyn’s energy and wise counsel over the years are immensely proud of, and not at all surprised by, Jeevyn’s achievement. Jeevyn is a founding member, past president, and a former director of SABABC. Even when she was not on the Board of SABABC, Jeevyn continued to be generous in giving her time and support to the organization. Jeevyn is a distinguished immigration lawyer recognized for her legal acumen in a variety of publications. She is a long-time Bencher of the Law Society. Jeevyn was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 2019, to mark her exceptional merit and contribution to the legal profession. While the office of President will undoubtedly present unique challenges, particularly in these times where the self-regulatory legal framework in B.C. is under review, we are confident that Jeevyn will be up to the task and will capably steer the Law Society through whatever may arise. SABABC congratulates Jeevyn for her remarkable achievement and looks forward to engaging with her on issues that impact our members.
