If you are coming from IH-35, we recommend taking Exit 254 - Old Settlers Blvd for easiest access to Sam Bass Road.
Parking
Drive to the top of the circle at the lower part of the driveway. Someone will assist with parking. Please do not park on the yard area. Please drop off passengers at the front door, if necessary, and go back to the asphalt drive above the circle and park off of the asphalt or where you are directed to park. Please keep the circle free of parked cars. For those driving alone and who can walk to the front door, please park just off of the asphalt at the top of the circle. If you need to be able to leave early, parking just off of the pavement as noted above will allow that.
Please note that Daylight Savings time begins on Sunday March 10, 2024 so we will have plenty of daylight until the planned conclusion about 7 pm.
About the property
This place sits between two 50-year-old large lot developments northwest of Round Rock that we found in 1976. It was a jumble of many trees, dead and alive, cedar brush left by the cedar choppers, vine thickets, and mesquite and cactus. My late wife and I cleared enough space to build a house and moved in March, 1978. The last brush thicket was cleared last year.
The Pond
At the first visit, the real estate agent said that there was a spring fed pond. With his second son, David climbed over the barbed wire fence and made their way through undergrowth including thorny dewberry vines even though he was in dress clothes with suit, tie and dress shoes.
The pond may drop 2 feet in the summer, but it has never gone dry. The spring is a real wonder. The pond faces southeast, right into the prevailing breeze. When the breeze blows, the mosquitoes give up and stay away from those sitting on the deck.
