The annual Surgicom Conference takes place this year on 24 & 25 August at the Radisson Blu, Umhlanga in Umhlanga Rocks, Kwazulu Natal with the theme "Embrace the Future ... Surgical Private Practice - 2024 and Beyond". The programme features an impressive line-up of speakers addressing critical issues for Surgeons in 2024.
The 2024 Conference will focus on the future of surgery including a particular consideration of the impact, potential utilisation and funding of robotic surgery as well as a debate on whether or not the new generation of anti-obesity drugs will render bariatric surgery obsolete. Ergonomics in Surgery will be examined as well as the role of the surgeon in antibiotic stewardship. Anticipated changes in legislation and regulation are important challenges in South Africa in 2024. As usual we will cover a number of medico-legal topics including a "live" medico-legal case to adjudicate. There will be expanded coding sessions and several sessions on practical day-to-day surgical practice management. The weekend will update and inform both young surgeons and those with well-established practices as they face the challenges of tomorrow.
