It is paramount for Internal Auditors to embrace and learn new technologies and implement new tools and techniques to effectively respond to shifting business and risk landscapes. Themed "New Horizons: Securing the Future", the IIA Kenya will hold the 21st Annual Seminar to focus on the future of the profession and both new and existing opportunities to cement their role as trusted advisors for public sector, private sector, and not-for-profit making organizations. The Seminar will prepare participants to embrace and learn new skills, explore technologies and ideas in the face of disruption, provide an opportunity to network with peers, and explore tools and techniques to respond effectively to shifting business, assurance, and risk landscapes. Leonard Okoth is an audit leader with more than 16 years experience in Assurance, Governance and Risk Management. He is currently the Chairperson of IIA Kenya and Acting Director, Internal Audit and Risk Department at the Central Bank of Kenya. Previously, he worked with Safaricom as Senior Manager, Internal Audit and Housing Finance as Internal Auditor.
Leonard has extensive Board experience spanning many organisations. Currently Board member Public Sector Accounting Standards Board, where he is the Chairman of Internal Audit Standards Committee. Greg van Choyke, MATD is the Director of Strategic Global Initiatives for the Certification and Global Development team at The Institute of Internal Auditors. Greg, who earned his Master of Arts in Training and Development from Roosevelt University in 2010 and has a background in association management, joined The IIA in 2017. In his role at The IIA, Greg is responsible for the strategic global initiatives and marketing efforts for the department by helping our global network of affiliates and chapters. Greg’s primary responsibilities also consist of collaborating on strategies regarding the communications and marketing for The IIA’s core certifications and designations: the flagship Certified Internal Auditor® (CIA®) certification, the Certification in Risk Management Assurance® (CRMA®), the Qualification in Internal Audit Leadership® (QIAL®), and the Internal Audit Practitioner designation. Dr Majid Twahir is the Associate Dean, Research and Innovation at the Strathmore University
Business School and works as a lecturer in the Institute of Healthcare Management. Over the last
30 years, Majid has worked between University of Nairobi and Aga Khan University starting as
an Assistant lecturer to senior lecturer and administratively becoming an Associate Dean, Clinical
affairs. He has simultaneously also worked in the healthcare industry starting from a junior doctor
to hospital leadership.
Majid has a Doctorate in Business Administration from United States International University
(USIU-A) and a Master of Business Administration from Strathmore Business School. He also
holds advanced medical qualifications - Post Fellowship Certificate in Nephrology, Master of
Medicine (Internal Medicine), Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery. Majid has also
recently qualified with a Bachelor of Laws degree from University of Nairobi. Majid is trained
arbitrator and mediator and a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. Majid supervises
various students at PhD and Master level. He has previously supervised various Master students in

He is currently a non-executive member of the Board of Trustees at Strathmore University

Prof. Joshua Abong’o Okumbe teaches corporate governance, leadership and educational management at masters and doctoral levels at the University of Nairobi. He is a longstanding scholar, researcher, expert and trainer in corporate governance, leadership and management. He has undertaken this for more than 30 years, as a scholar and publisher at the University of Nairobi and as the key leader in corporate governance and leadership training and research at the Centre for Corporate Governance. Prof. Okumbe has facilitated the development and implementation of corporate governance Training Manuals and Guidelines in a number of regions in Africa, US and Brazil.

He has facilitated the development and implementation of corporate governance and leadership programmes at the University of Nairobi, KCA University and ESAMI. He has facilitated the development of Competency Based Diploma Curriculum in Corporate Governance.

Prof. Okumbe has facilitated training and development of several postgraduate students in Eastern Africa and over 17,000 public leaders, Board Members, executives and senior managers from a cross-section of organisations and companies in Anglophone and Francophone Africa. He has disseminated research studies on corporate governance practices in companies, Banks and SMEs; conducted Board Evaluations and Mentorship Programmes for various corporations.

He has played a key role as a Chief Judge and Judge in the Kenyan Performance Contracts, FiRe Awards, COG Awards, Capital Markets Awards, Banking Awards and Insurance Awards.

Prof. Okumbe published three University level books in Educational Management and Human Resources, including a Manual for Boards of Directors. He has published academic papers in refereed journals, attended several corporate governance and management trainings, workshops and conferences regionally, in Europe, US, Canada, India and Brazil.

Dr Frank Njenga graduated at the University of Nairobi in 1975. He obtained Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in 1980 after training at the Mandsley Hospital in London. He was subsequently elected Fellow of the College.
He taught at the University of Nairobi before venturing into full time practice in 1983. Through the media, public lectures as well as talks to professional bodies and schools, he was, for a long time the face of mental health in Kenya.
Over the years, he led the campaign against stigma of mental health using among other methods, the mass media. His TV series, (Frankly speaking) broke the silence over mental health issues and led Kenyans to embrace the message that mental illness is common and treatable.
