After completing a Business Science degree at UCT, David moved to London where he spent six years at Deutsche Bank working within fixed income. On his return to Cape Town in 2014, David completed a postgraduate in Sustainable Development at Stellenbosch University, which opened the door for three years as a sell-side ESG research analyst. After spending the majority of 2018 travelling across Europe in a campervan, David joined Nedgroup Investments as a Senior Investment Analyst. As well as covering a number of equity and balanced funds, he was charged with spearheading the ESG strategy. David was promoted to Head of Responsible Investment at the beginning of 2022.
She has worked in communications and corporate affairs for over 20 years. After earning a National Diploma in Media Studies in 2000, she has joined lovelife in 2001 as a Radio Producer, collaborating directly with the SABC AL Stations to provide HIV prevention and educational programming. When the opportunity to join Metrorail as a Communication Specialist and Spokesperson leading the implementation of the Soweto Business Express presented itself in 2007, she jumped at it.
She joined Siemens in 2006 as a Spokesperson and Media Relations Manager and was later promoted to lead the Africa Cluster's Government Relations. One of her first significant assignments in my new position was to work on Siemens' participation in the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP17). They were successful in convincing the national government to position Siemens as the conference's thought leader and the Corporate lead for COP 17. She was promoted to Executive Head of Corporate Affairs for Siemens in 2011.
In 2013, She joined Tiger Brands as a Public Policy and Government Relations Advisor to the CEO and Corporate Affairs Department, where She oversaw the creation of the Department of Agriculture's and Tiger Brands' first ever Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) focusing on offtake agreements with Small Holder Farmers.
She was appointed Project Director for the Northwest Township and Village Retail Economy Project in 2017, where we developed over 150 entrepreneurs and helped them launched their small businesses . She joined Unilever as Director Corporate Affairs Southern Africa in 2021.
Ruth Rennie leads a global team responsible for supporting companies to understand and respond to the growing demand for sustainability disclosure from regulators, investors, consumers and public opinion. Before joining WBCSD Ruth held the role of Senior Director of Standards and Assurance for the Rainforest Alliance which runs the world’s largest voluntary sustainable agriculture certification program. Ruth has more than 20 years experience in supporting standards development and implementation, value chain development, and facilitating multi-stakeholder partnerships between businesses, governments, NGOs, civil society & local communities in Africa, Asia and the Middle East. She is a passionate advocate for sustainability standards and disclosure having experienced first hand the immense leverage that responsible business practices can have in combatting the major challenges of climate change, biodiversity loss and rising inequalities facing the world.
Kurt Roelandt is a Director of Envision Advisory (EAS) a management consulting firm based in Bryanston, Johannesburg. He is responsible for the ESG, M&A and Strategy practice areas within EAS. He has more than 20 years’ experience in management consulting and line management cross a wide range of sectors including construction, mining, and telecoms. Prior to this role he was a Management Consultant at McKinsey and Head of Strategy and M&A at the Aveng.
Having had extensive work experience in corporate Strategy, Finance, Operations and Sustainability at senior levels, and serving on the Board of a large environmental NGO, I am deeply passionate about the role that businesses, and in turn, countries, can play in creating a sustainable world through their core strategies whilst still prospering economically. I see my personal goals of contributing to the greater good, and the need to think differently about the way in which we act and do business as being one and the same. 10+ years leadership level experience.
