Our colleagues at the German Chamber of Commerce are organizing a very interesting lunch event on 16 July. Due to your BLCC co-promoting this event, our Belgian & Luxembourg business communities are welcome to join this event; we hope you will find it interesting.

'FinTech' stands for a whole range of innovative companies that are utilising technology to change finance. But what exactly do they do, how are they different from what we already have and perhaps most importantly, how do they impact you personally?

This seminar does not have an in-depth, 'techy' answer to all of these questions but it does offer a structured overview of some areas of finance (notably payments) that will be strongly affected by FinTechs. It sets out to explain in clear terms what types of FinTechs there are & how they shape up against traditional banks. The role of Hong Kong as a regional FinTech Hub & connector to mainland China is reviewed, as well as the ability of mainland Chinese companies to export their FinTech innovations abroad. Finally, an overview of FinTech innovations with real world applications (eg. BlockChain in Trade Finance) is presented.

Objectives:

  • Understanding how FinTech is defined & what types of FinTechs there are;
  • Evaluating FinTechs competitive advantages & disadvantages against entrenched players;
  • Developing an understanding of how the competitive landscape can evolve & how this will impact retail and wholesale clients.

Remarks: GCC & BLCC are closely monitoring the Covid-19 situation. On the day of the event, attendees are required to fill out the Health Declaration Form & do a temperature check.
