Event Details

Based on the Sixth Assessment Report issued by the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), it is unequivocal that human influence has warmed the atmosphere, ocean and land. The widespread and rapid changes in the atmosphere, ocean, cryosphere and biosphere have occurred. The seminar will focus on the latest assessment on climate change and its impacts, and what we need to do to mitigate the negative impacts of climate change.

    Dr Cho Ming CHENG

    Director of the Hong Kong Observatory

    Dr Cheng graduated from the University of Hong Kong in 1985 with a Bachelor of Science majoring in Physics and Mathematics, and subsequently obtained a PhD degree in Physics in 1989. He joined the Hong Kong Observatory in 1989 as a Scientific Officer. From 1990 onwards, he had been involved in weather forecasting, TV weather presentation, hydrometeorology, radar and satellite meteorology, and aerodrome meteorological observing system, etc. He was promoted as the Assistant Director in 2011 to take charge of the Weather Forecasting and Warning Services Branch, responsible for public weather services and development of the Observatory website and “MyObservatory” mobile app, forecasting technique research, etc. Dr Cheng succeeded as the Director of the Hong Kong Observatory in 2020.
