The entry of foreign telecom operators into Myanmar has made a substantial impact on the overall development of the country. This includes improved access to financial services for the majority of the country's population who previously lacked formal access. Since the entry of foreign telecom operators in 2014, the telcos' next step of offering digital payments in Myanmar has helped with the development of the country's economy. Wave Money made headlines recently because of its significant partnerships to accelerate the transformation in line with the mass adoption of digital payments in the country. This comes as an indication that Myanmar has proved its readiness for further expansion and mass adoption of digital payments. Other telecom providers are rolling out their platforms as well and are looking to expand rapidly as consumer behaviors continue to change and become more open to making payments digitally.
