Train-the-Teacher: MakerSpace Tool Trainings
As part of Generator's MakerSchool Program we now offer Train-the-Teacher: MakerSpace Tool Trainings, professional development courses that address safety and maintenance operations, curriculum integration, and lesson planning to utilize makerspace tools. Trainings include: Laser Cutter, 3D Printer; Vinyl Cutter; Sewing; and Electronics. This learning series will be offered every Fall, Winter, and Spring for the next three years to ensure our MakerSchool partners receive the necessary training to build out, sustain, and enhance STEAM learning through maker education. Each training has 12 spots that will be made first available to educators at MakerSchools, and then opened up to Vermont educators as space allows.
Specific Training Description
Join Generator for a full day of code! Learn how to program in Scratch, work with microcontrollers and robots, to then be able to apply these skills to your classroom. The morning session is an intro to coding, electronics and using Micro Bits. In the afternoon we will apply what we have learned to Edison Robots.
Micro Bits:
- This session provides a basic introduction to creating and making with code using the Microbit microcontrollers and block programming. Participants will be introduced to coding techniques that can be used to control a micro-controller and basic electronics. The Microbit is an easy to use micro-controller with built-in sensors that students can use for creative and practical problem-solving that can take their projects to the next level. We'll share a variety of classroom examples from creating wearables to game controllers to science models and more that integrate creating, making, and code across the curriculum.
Edison Robotics:
- Edison is a robust educational robot designed to bring coding to life for students and help teachers deliver meaningful 21st century education. Participants will engage in a hands-on introduction to learning and teaching coding and algorithmic thinking. Each participant will walk away with their own Edison Robot to support program development and delivery into their classroom.
Please bring a laptop/chromebook to use during this session. Desktop computers will be made available. Explore Burlington's dining options during the designated lunch hour. Lunch will not be provided. If interested in learning a bit more about Edison Robots check out:
