Train-the-Teacher: MakerSpace Tool Trainings

As part of Generator's MakerSchool Program we offer Train-the-Teacher: MakerSpace Tool Trainings, professional development courses that address safety and maintenance operations, curriculum integration, and lesson planning to utilize makerspace tools. Trainings include: Laser Cutter, 3D Printer; Vinyl Cutter; Sewing; and Electronics. This learning series will be offered every Fall, Winter, and Spring for the next three years to ensure our MakerSchool partners receive the necessary training to build out, sustain, and enhance STEAM learning through maker education. Each training has 12 spots that will be made first available to educators at MakerSchools, and then opened up to Vermont educators as space allows.

Specific Training Description

This training provides insights for educators in the STEM/STEAM community how to teach basic woodworking in their classroom. Educators will learn how to safely use fundamental woodworking hand tools to make an ox-yoke puzzle, a historical agricultural tool but with a puzzling twist. This session will teach you how to take advantage of math in carpentry, the science behind wood as a building material, establishing a design process in the classroom, and how to take advantage of basic hand tools that will have students excited for more hands-on learning. Participants will walk away with an ox-yoke puzzle and learning materials to share with their students.

Explore Burlington's dining options during the designated lunch break. Lunch will not be provided.
