According to the United Nations Tourism, appropriate tourism human capital is a prerequisite for meeting the current and future market demands as well as enhancing competitiveness and sustainability of tourism destinations. This session will provide a diagnostic assessment global trend in human capital development for Travel, Hospitality and Tourism. This session will discuss the opportunities that have enabled destinations to deliver world class programmes through collaborations across the globe.

This session will be aimed at providing perspectives on how the country could establish a pipeline of trained tourism workforce. The discussion will mainly highlight how the Governments as well as the industry players can incorporate the various career opportunities into the school system with a view to generating interest among young learners to take up careers in Tourism. Various approaches will be considered which could include Integrating training, internships, and tourism educational materials in secondary schools in order to increase awareness among young people on the careers available in Tourism Industry. The session will also provide insights for destinations that have successfully integrated.

The absence of defined learning and career paths in tourism has resulted in most professionals navigating and defining their own paths. This significantly affects the attractiveness of the industry. This session will explore the journeys of three professionals and how their unique experiences can be used in developing learning paths and career paths.

This session will discuss the various strategies that can be adopted to ensure that the highest quality of tourism education, training, and research programs are in place. The current demand for a skilled worker will undoubtedly create opportunity for educators. The session is aimed at assisting destinations adequately prepare for workforce development by ensuring that faculty staff are well qualified and experienced to provide the highest quality of training and research. The session will also identify the opportunities for the standardisation and mobility of industry learning across Africa
