Kenya Green Building Society

The KGBS is an independent, non-profit, non-political, member-based organization formed to lead the transformation of the built environment in Kenya toward environmentally sustainable buildings, promoting a healthy and efficient built environment.

Our mission is to advocate, educate and certify green buildings in Kenya to achieve an environmentally, socially, and economically progressive built environment.

The vision of KGBS is to transform the construction industry and built environment to a sustainable future, promoting a healthy and sustainable environment for the nation. Kenyans spend 90% of their time in buildings and use the built environment to travel from one
building to another daily. Buildings and construction, together account for 36% of global final energy use and 39% of energy-related carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions when upstream power generation is included. Thus, green buildings can set the world on a trajectory to meet the global climate ambitions set forth in the Paris Agreement.

Building green is an urgent response to climate action, health and well being, and resource circularity.

Event Details

The Kenya Green Building Society (KGBS) cordially invites you to our ESG awareness session on July 22nd, 2022. It will be a hybrid session with limited physical attendance slots as well as an online attendance option, with the event being streamed live on YouTube through the Kenya Green Building Society official account: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC_wTBBxUMM7tOkbkJBR-L_Q . The physical event begins at 7:30 a.m., with the virtual ESG Session beginning at 8:00 a.m.

The event's purpose is to bring together key stakeholders to discuss how we can collaborate to advance the ESG agenda, especially now that investors and global trends are propelling it forward at breakneck pace. It also allows us to explore any problems or opportunities to green finance, visibility across the continent, including utilizing our position as Africa's Climate Change Champions, and what this means as we approach COP27 and beyond.

Finally, we hope that this discussion will kick off a series of partnerships that will bring key parties together to push ESG adoption and offer potential action steps to help us get there.

We are well positioned to make a significant impact as KGBS because our focus is the built environment, which includes real estate and related industries (such as financial and professional services that support this industry, and businesses that have real estate as an asset class), and we are implementation partners for the IFC's EDGE buildings. However, we would appreciate your assistance in steering the narrative towards ESG for maximum impact.

Be sure to register for the event and we look forward to seeing you there!
