This workshop will talk about the prevalence of trauma in families. It will look at how caregivers and children respond to trauma. In particular, it will look at how trauma affects them and their parenting. It will also look at how trauma affects children.
It will talk about what children need to heal from trauma and how caregivers can help. It will look at guidelines for disciplining and parenting children who have experienced trauma. Lastly, it will look at how to build resiliency for families.
Speakers
Lydia DeBiase is an Assistant Professor at Kutztown University in the Social Work Department. She teaches Case Management: An Interdisciplinary Approach and Professional Dimensions of Case Management. She worked in child welfare for 17 years as a caseworker, supervisor, and placement manager. She has also worked with juveniles adjudicated delinquent, incarcerated adults with mental illness and outpatient mental health and addiction. In addition to teaching she has a private practice that specializes in working with maltreated children. She earned a BSW from Kutztown University and an MSW and a PhD from Widener University. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. Her areas of expertise include trauma-informed care, child welfare, families at risk, maltreated children, criminal justice, case management, clinical supervision, and clinical work.
